Overview:

Bernadette is a Partner in the Cambridge Private Client Team.  She advises on trusts, tax, charities, probate and succession planning issues for UK and international clients.

Experience:

Bernadette advises on estate planning and related tax issues, trusts, charity and probate.  She has considerable experience in advising individuals (including high net worth individuals), settlors, trustees and beneficiaries. She advises on a full range of private client issues from attorneyships to Wills. She regularly advises on family succession and tax planning.  She advises executors and trustees (including charity trustees) on their duties and responsibilities and advises on UK trusts, probate and estate administration. Her work often includes dealing with matters with a foreign element so her remit includes dealing with issues relating to domicile, residence, UK/ foreign property ownership by non-domiciliaries/ non-residents, establishing offshore trusts and related trust, tax and beneficiary issues.    

Background:

Bernadette read history at the University of Warwick and then trained in law.  Articled at London practice, Lawrence Graham, she qualified in 1993 joining Speechly Bircham as a Private Client solicitor.  In 1995 she moved to Mishcon de Reya as a senior assistant, before joining Anderson Legal in 1997 as a senior manager.  Bernadette worked as a senior associate at SJ Berwin from 2004 before joining Hewitsons as a partner in the autumn of 2011.  She is a member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners.
