"Intellectual Property and Open Innovation - a dangerous mix?"
29 April 2008
We have joined forces with The Cambridge Network IP Special Interest Group and the Institute for Manufacturing 'Open Innovation' project to debate this thorny issue at an event on May 14th.
'Open innovation' is a term that has emerged to describe the use of inflows and outflows of ideas to accelerate internal innovation, and expand the markets for external use of innovation.
However, there are significant organizational and contractual issues which need to be handled in the run up to identification of a candidate for transfer and also as exploitation rolls out. Given the difference in size and culture between the donor and receptor companies there is a lot that can go wrong in what should ideally be a trusting ‘win / win’ situation.
The Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) manages a consortium of blue chip companies from across Europe which are working together to form and benchmark best practices in Open Innovation. .
The case for the large company will be represented by Mike Addison of Proctor and Gamble and the case for the small company will be represented by Tony Hooley, Founder of 1-Ltd.
This event is open to any member of staff of a paid-up corporate member of the Cambridge Network and blue chip guests of the IfM.
