Hewitsons hosts lawyer from North Carolina Research Triangle

Helping emerging companies succeed in a difficult marketplace was one of the main topics of discussion during the visit of IP/IT lawyer Randy Whitmeyer to Hewitsons in Cambridge on Wednesday. (May 21)
Randy, a partner at Hutchison Law Group in North Carolina, which along with Hewitsons is a member of global law network LawExchange International, also visited the St John's Innovation Centre to discuss early stage funding for biotech and high tech companies, and other issues common to spin-out and emerging companies in the incubator centres in North Carolina and in Cambridge.
Commenting on his visit, Randy said: "The North Carolina Research Triangle has a lot in common with Cambridge. There is a shared interest in the fields of biotechnology and high technology with focus on the funding needs of early stage and emerging companies. When you are looking to secure funding it is crucial to have the right connections, especially in this difficult economic climate."
Before arriving in Cambridge the former computer programmer had attended The International Trademark Association's (INTA) annual meeting in Berlin. During his stay in the German capital, Randy, along with Hewitsons' Niel Ackermann and Mark Elmslie, took part in the inaugural meeting of LawExchange's IP/IT sub-group.
Randy is now set to visit fellow LawExchange members Ramberg Advokater in Stockholm and Ayache Salama & Associés in Paris.
John Dix, Hewitsons' managing partner, who officially welcomed Randy to Cambridge, added: "We were delighted that Randy found time to visit us in his busy schedule and it proved invaluable to share his thoughts and legal expertise in the fields of information technology and intellectual property."
