Overview:
Alan is a partner in the Property Section of the firm, working on all kinds of commercial property matters for all varieties of clients.
Experience:
Alan has over 30 years' experience of advising clients on commercial property matters, including sales and purchases of freehold properties, the grant and dealings with leases, Landlord and Tenant Act matters, and in particular specialises in property development through single transactions, joint ventures, consortium arrangements (involving promotion agreements, options and collaboration/co-ordination agreements) and property funding matters. Alan is also the firm's adviser on property taxation issues (including in particular Stamp Duty Land Tax and Value Added Tax).
Background:
Alan read law at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge (LLM and Diploma in International Law) and at the University of Birmingham (LLM: Distinction). He taught law as a supervisor at Sidney Sussex and Magdalene Colleges, Cambridge and has lectured on property matters for external London LLB students. Alan obtained an MBA degree in legal practice in 1998 and became a fellow of the Centre for Law Firm Management. Alan has been a partner of Hewitsons (or its former constituent firms) since 1977. He became Head of the firm-wide Commercial Property department in 1991, before being appointed Managing Partner of the firm from 1 September 1994 to 1 September 2004, and then served a term as Senior Partner of the firm. He has led the firm's M11 Corridor Development Group since its inauguration in 2004.
