First team flying past the post for Chariots 2008!

03 June 2008

Entries are flooding in for this year's Chariots of Fire charity relay race and the team quickest off the mark to enter the event was Newmarket Plant Hire.

Chris Last, the company's Finance Director and Chariots team manager commented, "We were honoured to be the first team to enter this year's event as we have run in Chariots for the last three years! Having entered some big events in the past, we know it is important to get the registration forms in early to avoid missing out."

"The team have already started training for the race and are keen to get as much sponsorship as possible for the two charities. Chariots of Fire is a lot of fun and we are already fired up to try and beat our previous records!"

The event is sponsored by Hewitsons and Grant Thornton LLP and is backed by the Cambridge News.

Laragh Jeanroy, partner at Grant Thornton UK LLP said, "Make sure your teams raise lots of sponsorship money this year, as the money will make a huge difference to the lives of so many that are supported by this year's charities, Red Balloon - Cambridge and Romsey Mill."

Carrie Herbert, Director of Red Balloon - Cambridge explained, "The Learner Centre was set up to fill an educational gap for extremely badly bullied children and offers them a safe place to concentrate on their studies, whilst gaining confidence and life skills."

Neil Perry, CEO at Romsey Mill explained, "We help young people and families to create and access the opportunities they need to flourish. Activities range from literacy courses for young parents and trips for children with Asperger syndrome to urban music workshops and football for teenagers."

Charles Hewitson, Race Director and partner at Hewitsons added, "We encourage teams to get their entries in as soon as possible, as the places usually get filled up quickly. You can also visit our new Chariots of Fire website for further details on the event which includes features such as television coverage of the 2007 race!"

The event will take place on Sunday 21 September, starting on Queens' Green at 9.30am and following a picturesque route through the city centre and Kings, Trinity and Clare colleges. The event is run in relay format, with six runners in a team competing for a variety of prizes.
