Overview:

Chris is head of Hewitsons Charities team.

Experience:

Chris is a charity law specialist. He advises all kinds of charities from start ups to national and international charities, large grant makers, complex service providers and those with multiple commercial and regulatory needs. He is particularly adept at addressing strategic and commercial issues within the legal and regulatory context for charities.

Recent experience has included advice to service providers on local authority tendering and contracts, regulatory advice on refinancing, advice on the implications of the public benefit requirements to a wide range of charities, undertaking reviews of constitutional and governance issues, and establishing group structures involving both charities and community interest companies.

Background:

Chris read politics and history at York University before being called to the bar in 1994. He worked previously in the charities team at Anthony Collins in Birmingham and joined the firm in May 2007. He is a member of the Charity Law Association.
