Overview:

Stephen is a Principal Solicitor in the Northampton Dispute Resolution Group. His practice covers a wide range of commercial disputes.

Experience:

Commercial experience   

Stephen represents and advises clients in relation to contractual disputes, sale of goods, professional negligence claims, pension disputes, competition law issues, insolvency matters, and defended debt claims. He is particularly interested in matters with an international dimension including jurisdictional and choice of law issues and international trade. Stephen represents clients at Court, in negotiations, and in alternative dispute resolution procedures of mediation and expert determination.

Education experience    

Stephen advises and acts for clients in a range of education-related matters and disputes.  He has advised independent schools, further education colleges and parents in relation to issues such as disability discrimination, school reports, school fees, parent contracts and commercial agreements. He is also a Governor of a community special school.

Background:

Stephen read Law with French at the University of Leicester which involved a year studying French law at the Université Robert Schuman in Strasbourg. He holds a Master of Jurisprudence research degree from the University of Durham relating to the application of international economic sanctions. Stephen undertook his training with Clifford Chance in London and Brussels, and qualified into that firm's banking litigation group in 1995. He joined Hewitsons in November 1996. He was made Senior Solicitor in May 2001 and Principal Solicitor in May 2008.
