Overview:

Colin Jones is a partner and head of the Cambridge Construction and Procurement Law Team. He is a member of the firm's Charity, Education and CleanTech Groups. 

Experience:

Colin is a highly experienced legal adviser, acting for developers, contractors, design and construction professionals, construction product manufacturers, funders and occupiers. He acts for UK and European, public and private sector, charity and education clients, including suppliers and manufacturers and has a growing client base in the cleantech and sustainable construction market. 

He advises on both contentious and non-contentious matters and in regard to all aspects of UK and European procurement law. His clients include commercial and residential property developers, educational and charity bodies and public sector institutions.

New clients and projects advised on in the past 12 months include, two University of Cambridge Colleges in regard to new accommodation and teaching facilities, a Japanese pharmaceutical company in regard to a new HQ project in the South of England, an education foundation in regard to the development of a new secondary school, a FE college in regard to a sustainable energy project and a charity developing new accommodation for disabled occupants.  

He has been acting for a public body on a new £200m+ facility to house world leading medical science research and development. Advice provided has included in regard to all aspects of the procurement and construction of the project. 

A long standing element of his practice is advising businesses operating in the clean tech and sustainable construction market, including UK and European based manufacturers and suppliers, as well as contractors and consultants. Colin is a member of Hewitsons' CleanTech Group which advises manufacturers, suppliers, consultants, contractors as well as customers involved in PVU installations, wind turbines and other forms of green energy systems.

The construction + procurement team at Hewitsons has a leading reputation for advice to the property, construction services and construction products market. From dispute resolution to advice on the procurement of commercial, residential and infrastructure projects, the team has won plaudits for its effective and pragmatic approach to meeting the objectives of clients.

Independent Legal Directory, Chambers, reported that Colin Jones was a key individual in his practice area and in regard to Hewitsons’ construction team; Colin "is considered the cornerstone of the practice and is the driving force behind the majority of its work." Legal 500 reported that the Hewitsons Construction team is ‘very good indeed; they understand how their advice impinges on a business’.

Colin has drafted a series of standard form consultant appointments for the Association of Consultant Architects and the British Institute of Interior Design.   

Colin also advises the Sports and Play Construction Association.

He is a Council member of the Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry and a member of the Cambridge Interact Club of property and construction professionals. 

He undertakes training on contract law at the University of Cambridge School of Architecture and speaks regularly on construction and procurement matters.
