Overview:
John is Hewitsons' Managing Partner and chairs the Management Board. He is based in Cambridge and his practice area is company law, dealing with M&A, funding and corporate governance matters.
Experience:
John's experience encompasses advising companies at board level on corporate transactions and issues, his legal expertise being enhanced by skills honed in managing the Hewitsons' business. His practice developed around technology companies raising finance, and making acquisitions and disposals, and he has advised investors and funds, as well as founders and investee companies. His work on financing, structuring and governance has extended his client base to banks, public sector bodies, educational institutions, and charities.
John is actively involved in a number of roles in the territory where the public and private sectors meet. His current external directorships include the Greater Cambridge Partnership, Cambridgeshire Horizons, and Cambridge City Centre Partnership Limited ("Love Cambridge"). He is also a vice chair of the governing body of the Perse School for Girls and the Stephen Perse Sixth Form College.
Background:
John has degrees in law and history from the University of Sydney. He qualified in New South Wales in 1986, and in England and Wales in 1991. He joined Hewitsons in 1988 and became a partner in 1996.
