Overview:

Nick is a solicitor and partner within the employment team, based at our Northampton offices. He is the team leader and advises on all aspects of contentious and non contentious employment law and practice.

Experience:

Nick has extensive experience in advising clients, predominantly employers, on all areas of employment law. His clients include businesses ranging from medium sized enterprises through to listed PLCs, as well as organisations in the charity and education sectors.

In the contentious area, Nick deals with all aspects of employment tribunal claims, including appearing as advocate before the tribunals on behalf of employers. He has a great deal of experience in dealing with equal pay issues, for example acting for a school and successfully defending such claims. He also advises clients on the enforcement of post termination restrictive covenants in the courts.

Nick advises clients on all areas of non contentious employment law and practice, from contracts of employment and policies, through to advice on changing terms and conditions, as well as grievance and disciplinary procedures. Nick of course also advises clients on legal and practical procedures to follow when employers are considering reorganisations, redundancies and all other types of dismissals.

In the area of mergers and acquisitions, Nick has extensive experience of advising on TUPE and all the other employment issues that will arise, whether on the merger of schools or acquisition of the business of a large manufacturer.

Nick has a great deal of experience advising on matters relating to trades unions, including advising employers on the procedures and legal issues relating to the statutory procedures for union recognition at the CAC.

Background:

After Nick graduated with an honours law degree from Staffordshire University, he attended the College of Law in Chester, to complete his Solicitors Final Examinations, for which he was also awarded honours. Nick undertook his training with Hewitsons from 1990 until 1992 when he qualified, and has remained with the firm since, becoming a partner in 2000.
