Anne's love of music
A love of music led Anne Sales to join the Cambridge Philharmonic Society and as an active committee member she is keen to share that passion with others.
Anne, a solicitor at Hewitsons, said: “It is great fun, but the society doesn’t run itself. It has a voluntary committee and employs a professional conductor, leader and chorus master. I joined the choir in 2003 and was made a committee member in 2008. My legal background is useful in dealing with charity commission formalities and contracts.”
“The annual family concert is one of our most popular events and aims to introduce children to music. There was a packed audience at this year’s concert at the Cambridge Corn Exchange and the society likes to encourage an interest in classical music from a young age. We also like to employ young soloists wherever possible”.
”The high point last year was the performance of Mahler’s second symphony in Kings College Chapel in Cambridge. It was terrific!”
With a large number of members from a wide variety of backgrounds who all share a passion for music, the society exists to play and sing classical music at a high standard in and around Cambridge. It is renowned for performing great classical choral and orchestral works alongside new music.
