Hewitsons advises distance learning college on merger
13 July 2010
Hewitsons has advised the Cambridge-based National Extension College (NEC) on its merger with training and consulting specialist LSN.
The NEC, which is based in Purbeck Road, Cambridge, offers more than 150 home study courses. The merger sees it join forces with LSN (previously the Learning and Skills Network), which is dedicated to helping local authorities, schools and higher education colleges achieve best practice.
The work for NEC once again illustrates the strength of Hewitsons' integrated legal offering with partner Helen Drayton and solicitor Laurence Evans from the Cambridge corporate team joined by charity head Chris Knight, as well as colleagues from the property, employment and pension teams.
This follows a similar success last year when Hewitsons completed the acquisition of well-known agricultural institution, Shuttleworth College, on behalf of Bedford College. The corporate team was again supported by commercial, property, educational and employment law experts.
"We were delighted to be asked to help a successful Cambridge-based institution take the next step forward in terms of securing the continued provision of distant based learning,"said Helen. "This was another example of the firm being able to pool the resources at its disposal to provide an in-depth legal service covering all bases."
Dr Ann Limb, NEC's Chairman, said: "The timetable that was agreed by both the NEC and LSN, in what could easily have been a quite daunting process, was achieved thanks to the professionalism and skill of all the Hewitsons team."
