Chris's South African charity helps those affected by HIV and AIDS
Hewitson’s charity expert, Chris Knight, is working closely with his family to help make a difference to children and communities in South Africa affected by HIV and AIDS.
Chris helped his brother and sister-in-law set up the charity, Thembalitsha UK, which provides critical care to children infected by or orphaned by HIV / AIDS in Cape Town, South Africa. He is a trustee, supporter and has volunteered when visiting the project itself.
Chris said: “My involvement is not just to help support my brother and sister-in-law, but because I believe in helping those who are in need and cannot easily help themselves. Many of the inequalities in life are about opportunity and we are striving to give these children and communities the chance to thrive as they should.”
Thembalitsha UK is a health, social care and education charity working for children and communities affected by HIV and AIDS. Although its priority is helping children, it also works more generally with communities to develop people to the point of self-reliance by helping to establish pre-schools, adult training programs, health care services and education programs.
During the World Cup they were particularly busy running community football days, building bridges between the communities and those in the professional football world, and ensuring the poorest of communities can enter into the spirit of the event by providing big screen coverage and hot meals to hundreds of children and families.
