David has always worked in the area of private client law and was the first Chairman of the Cambridge Branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. His original training and experience was in probate law and the law of wills but he has developed an interest and expertise in the use of trusts in tax planning and in order to protect family assets as far as possible in today's complex world. He also has an interest in Charity Law and is a trustee of a substantial local charity.
Background:
David read languages at Christ's College, Cambridge before changing to law for his Part II exams and studying for his Law Society finals at the College of Law in Guildford. He trained as a solicitor at Payne Hicks Beach & Co in Lincoln's Inn, London, qualifying into their probate department in 1972. He joined Hewitsons (then Wild Hewitson & Shaw) in January 1975 and became a partner in 1977.
