Overview:

Karen is a prinicipal solicitor specialising in non-contentious planning law. She has long experience as a lawyer having practised originally in property law before moving into a specialisation in planning. This background gives her a valuable edge when it comes to dealing with the property law aspects of section 106 agreements.

Experience:

Karen has particular expertise in negotiating and drafting section 106 agreements covering a wide range of developments including large residential sites, retail uses, leisure and sports facilities and large scale mixed residential and commercial sites. Such obligations have included the provision of a school, infrastructure works, affordable housing, public art and public realm, travel plans and other sustainable transport measures.

Karen has also dealt with section 106 agreements in connection with the transfer, disposal and distribution of waste including household waste, human clinical waste and veterinary waste where obligations deal with limits of type and amount of waste dealt with over given timescales from specified areas of the country.

In addition to S106 work, Karen has wide experience in all aspects of planning law including Certificates of Lawfuless, enforcement issues, planning appeals, statutory challenges and Judicial Review proceedings in the High Court/Court of Appeal.

 

 

Background:

Karen joined the Hewitsons Planning and Environment Team in March 2002 having previously practised in a firm with a strong emphasis on planning law which particularly represented local authorities.
