Partners BID to keep Northampton tidy

Trish Kempson, Commercial Property partner in Northampton, is Hewitsons’ representative on the board of directors of the Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID). As part of its mandate, Northampton Town Centre BID is acting on behalf of all town centre businesses to ensure our streets remain clean, clear and a pleasure to walk around for every visitor.

While the council continues to work hard to keep our streets rubbish free, local businesses are keen to get the message out to the public that Northampton is a great place to shop, relax and do business and that everyone should be proud to play their part in keeping it this way.

As chair of the BID’s Strategy Working Group, Trish proposed a practical initiative for local business people to come together to raise awareness of the need for everyone to take responsibility for their litter and for the town centre. As part of a police and council educational clean operation ‘Pick Up’, eight directors of the BID and other volunteers turned out last Saturday and, armed with litter picking sticks and bin bags, spent three hours removing all litter from the town centre.

Trish said: “The BID is all about making Northampton a nicer, cleaner and more attractive place to do business and Hewitsons is proud to play its part in leading the way. We want to show our commitment and support for the current anti litter campaign in the best possible way - by members of the local business community getting their hands dirty, leading by example and showing that the BID really does mean business.” She added: “I certainly ended up with a stiff arm and legs from all that bending and picking but it was worth it for the offers of thanks we got as we went round!”
