Our CSR

We are delighted to play an important role in the communities where we live and work. We do that by giving some free legal advice to small charities, encouraging our staff to volunteer and by raising money for good causes through our charitable trust. We also take our environmental responsibility seriously. Sometimes called corporate social responsibility - to us, all this is a natural outworking of our place in the community.

Pro Bono Advice and Help for Small Charities
We are great supporters of small charities, offering free legal advice in many cases and also making grants. We are an active member of ProHelp and other free advice initiatives, as well as having our own scheme offering advice for free or a low fixed cost. Supporting small charities to overcome challenges and unlock their potential is all part of our commitment to ensuring we serve the whole charities sector and support our communities. To find out more, please contact us.

Hewitsons in the Community
Many of our staff volunteer for charities, schools and other not-for-profit organisations. We also encourage fundraising for charities and together we have raised a huge amount of money over the years for much needed charitable projects.

Hewitsons Charitable Trust and Chariots of Fire
Together with our charitable trust we organise the annual Chariots of Fire event in Cambridge which raises over £50,000 every year for one or two charities which are selected as the year’s recipients. Through this we have now raised over £1million for charities! The ever popular event includes around 2,500 runners - both athletes and amblers - competing alongside each other over a short but inspiring course. Please see the separate Chariots of Fire website here.

Community Foundations
We support the work of the Community Foundations which are local to many of our offices: Cambridgeshire Community FoundationMilton Keynes Community Foundation and Northamptonshire Community Foundation. Community Foundations are charities which provide an excellent way in which the generosity and need of an area are brought together, enabling individuals and businesses who want to give to be guided and matched up with charities and community groups in need of funding. We are a corporate supporter of each of these Community Foundations and also seek to support them in other ways.

Environmental Responsibility
We are fully committed to operating our business in a way which has as little detrimental impact on the environment as possible. Our procurement, IT management, energy consumption and waste management are all managed to achieve this. Many of our clients including conservation charities and green tech businesses have excellent practices in this area and we aim to complement these.
