Who should apply
A successful applicant will demonstrate the intellectual aptitude and the interest in developing into an enthusiastic, able solicitor who will respond to all the opportunities which we can offer in an excellent, well managed Training Contract. Those who are most successful have generally already achieved a high standard of academic success (at least a 2:1 degree) and have excellent interpersonal skills, show initiative and work well as part of a team.
The firm operates a vacation scheme. Demand for placements is always high and we offer these throughout the year. Application is by way of CV and covering email to email@example.com, setting out your areas of interest and your available dates.
Training contracts are currently offered at Cambridge and Northampton with possible seat placements in Milton Keynes and London.
Trainees complete four placements of six months each in a range of different legal specialisms. We work very hard with our trainees to ensure that together we achieve a training profile with which each is comfortable. During each seat, the trainee is supervised closely by a Partner or Associate. There is lots of guidance given and individual progress is monitored on a day-by-day basis as well as in a formal three monthly review, carried out mid-seat and at the end of the seat.
Trainees will participate in a comprehensive induction programme which takes place over a number of days. The PSC is coupled with an extensive programme of seminars specifically tailored for trainee solicitors and provided by specialist in-house lawyers.
Applications for training contracts commencing in September 2020 should be made by 31st August 2018. We are an equal opportunities employer.
|James Makin, Newly Qualified Solicitor|
|"I trained and qualified here at Hewitsons. I have always felt that I have really landed on my feet working at Hewitsons. From day one I have been made to feel an important part of the team. |
As a trainee I was impressed by the experience and backgrounds of the fee earners I worked with, how much time senior fee earners spent with me and also the quality of the work - we often deal with city and international law firms on the other side of our matters. Our client base is really varied and we represent some impressive household names.
I have since qualified into the Corporate and Employment team. I moved office on qualification and found that the Cambridge office is equally as friendly and accommodating as the Northampton office (I trained in Northampton). My supervisors have been patient with me but have also pushed and challenged me when needed. Thanks to the time the firm has invested in my development, at quite an early stage of my career (1-2 years PQE) I now have particular skills and expertise in certain areas which enable me to advise senior representatives of international and national companies, and correspond with senior lawyers."
