Hewitsons’ Northampton Office has hosted the presentation of an award by The High Sheriff of Northamptonshire.
It is one of the High Sheriff’s duties to present financial awards from the public purse at the direction of Crown Court Judges under the Criminal Law Act 1826, where a brave member of the public has assisted in the apprehension of an offender.
In this case, the recipient of the award assisted the police in tracking down assailants who had badly injured two innocent civilians in a violent affray at a restaurant in Northampton. The partners and staff of Hewitsons were delighted to be able to join with the High Sheriff, Dr Ahmed Mukhtar in recognising the gallantry of the Northampton man, which helped in bringing the offenders to justice in this case. Hewitsons partner and Under Sheriff of the county, Dominic Hopkins, commented “These occasions are not commonplace, but are a small way in which a deserving individual who has done something quite out of ordinary can be thanked on behalf of the community.”
