Law firm Hewitsons is co-sponsoring this year’s MK Midnight Moo Walk to raise money for Willen Hospice and celebrate Milton Keynes’ 50th birthday.
The 10-mile sponsored walk – named after the town’s iconic Concrete Cows sculpture – will take place on 15 July, setting off at 12.00(midnight) from intu Milton Keynes, in Midsummer Boulevard.
This year marks the 9th anniversary of this popular annual event hosted by Willen Hospice, which has already raised over £900,000 to date through the Midnight Moo since 2009. All money raised through sponsorship will go to the hospice and it is hoped that 2017 will be the year that total fundraising hits over £1,000,000 since its launch.
Hewitsons will sponsor the route’s six-mile marker, having also supported Willen Hospice in previous years through its various fundraising activities.
To encourage all participants along the mile, Hewitsons are offering a silent disco at the sixth mile, to avoid disturbing residents in Great Linford, which this section of the walk passes through. Hewitsons have created a Spotify album with a specially created playlist of gold-themed songs, which all participants will be encouraged to download ahead of the evening to enjoy through their personal earphones.
This ties in with the walk’s theme for 2017 – gold – which has been chosen to mark Milton Keynes’ 50th birthday.
Also in Hewitsons’ sixth mile, staff volunteers wearing gold top hats and giant foam hands will spur on walkers, high-fiving them as they pass.
Staff volunteers will also be handing out bracelets with golden raffle tickets attached being entry into a free prize draw. Hewitsons has rallied generous local businesses to donate the prizes, which will be announced nearer the time. Winners will be drawn and distributed after the event by representatives of Willen Hospice.
Lynne Adams at Hewitsons, said: “The MK Midnight Moo Walk is always a tremendous event, so we can’t wait for this one. It’s going to be doubly special, because as well as raising money for a great cause, it is being held to celebrate Milton Keynes’ 50th year.
“We’re honoured to be sponsoring the six-mile marker, but we appreciate that ours is [the only] section of the walk to pass through a residential area. In planning for the event, we were very conscious that we didn’t want to disturb local residents late at night.
“That said, we know that they will be incredibly supportive of this great event, as they always are, and we hope to see some friendly faces come out to support those taking part!”
Sarah Sweet-Rowley, Events Manager at Willen Hospice, said: “We’re delighted to have Hewitsons sponsoring the six-mile marker for this year’s MK Midnight Moo Walk, which we’re positive is going to be yet another fantastic event.
“It’s thanks to businesses like Hewitsons, along with all the walkers themselves, that we’re able to put on events like these, which are vital for raising the £3.6m the Hospice needs to be able to continue offering the care we do.”
Registration for this year’s event starts at 10pm at intu Milton Keynes. All participants must register and sign in by 11.30pm.
