Hewitsons Enters Dragon Boat Festival in Milton Keynes

On Sunday, 21st June, a number of Hewitsons staff, family and friends took part in the Dragon Boat Festival to race and raise money for Age UK Milton Keynes.

After a gruelling training session in the lead up to the festival the weather held off for the days racing and the team held their own during the three heats throughout the day. The Hewitsons team “Oar we there yet” had to compete over a 200m stretch using wooden paddles timed to the beat of a drummer. Due to overwhelming support the Hewitsons team had many additional crew members available, enabling everyone to have a go at racing which culminated in a respectable time of 89.7 seconds in one of the heats.

The team, led by Kate Webster, all together raised over £1000 after holding various additional fundraising events including book sales, raffles and a pub quiz. Kate Webster said “it was a great day and very well organised by Gable Events on behalf of Age UK MK, this is our first time entering the event and we look forward to coming back next year and maybe winning a race or two”.

Tim Richards, Partner in the Milton Keynes Office, said that “Hewitsons is proud to have entered a team, for the first time, in this prestigious and well supported local event. It provided an excellent opportunity for all our staff firm-wide to get involved and raise funds for an excellent cause and to have fun in doing so.”

In total the Dragon Boat Festival raised £28,000 for Age UK, a local charity helping over 14,000 older people make a positive difference in their life.
