Hewitsons increases number one rankings in Legal 500

Law firm Hewitsons has increased its number one positions in the latest Legal 500 directory rankings across East Anglia, the East Midlands and the South East.

Law firm Hewitsons has increased its number one positions in the latest Legal 500 directory rankings across East Anglia, the East Midlands and the South East. Hewitsons was one of the most highly recommended legal firms in East Anglia and the East Midlands. It was recommended as a ‘Top-Tier Firm’ in 16 practice areas, achieving this ranking for the first time in property litigation in East Anglia and, corporate and commercial in the East Midlands. Furthermore, the law firm was ‘recommended’ across 24 practice areas with four new areas being included in the South East region. These were personal tax, trusts and probate, commercial property, intellectual property and IT and telecoms. The firm’s litigation practice continues to make a top tier grade. This ranking comes hard on the heels of some research published earlier this year which rated Hewitsons’ disputes and litigation practice as the UK’s top achiever in High Court litigation in the reviewed period. Individual lawyers at Hewitsons also impressed, with 14 lawyers listed in the elite ‘Leading Lawyers’ list: an increase from nine in 2014. This included nine lawyers from East Anglia and five from the East Midlands. Forty lawyers from the law firm were also recommended in the Legal 500 rankings across East Anglia, the East Midlands and the South East. New entrants included Daniel Curtis, James Lawrence and Martin Smith who were all listed as ‘Leading Lawyers’ across several cities and towns in East Anglia including Cambridge, Ipswich, Norwich and Peterborough. Daniel Curtis achieved recognition for his work in the personal trusts and probate practice area; James Lawrence in the corporate and commercial practice area; and Martin Smith in commercial property. Other new additions to the leading lawyer list in East Anglia included Deborah Sharples in the environment practice area and Valerie Lambert for employment. In the East Midlands, established lawyers from previous Legal 500 rankings, including Chris Knight, Clare Colacicchi, Dominic Hopkins and Richard Ingram, reaffirmed their positions in the 2015 ‘Leading Lawyers’ list. Gareth Williams was a new addition for his work in the agriculture and estates practice area. Commenting on the latest edition of the Legal 500, Colin Jones, Managing Partner at Hewitsons said: “2015 has been a very eventful year with significant developments at Hewitsons, so I’m delighted with this year’s Legal 500 results which have cemented our position as a leading law firm in the regions in which we operate. “We have increased our number one positions in the rankings, with our exceptional work in numerous practice areas being rightly recognised. These excellent results could not have been achieved without the efforts of the fantastic team at Hewitsons and their hard work and dedication throughout the past year. The impact of our recent merger with a law firm in London and re-branding as Hewitson Moorhead has yet to be recognised within the Legal 500 and we look forward to next year’s results.
