With Prime Minister David Cameron describing Northampton as ‘the beating heart of the British economy’, Hewitsons is proud of its continued involvement in the economic development of the town. Northampton is among eleven areas across England to have been added to the Government’s list of Enterprise Zones intended to create over 30,000 jobs in hi-tech industries by 2015. During the Prime Minister’s visit to the town this week he praised the impressive construction projects taking place, particularly in the developing Enterprise Zone. Hewitsons’ specialist Residential Development and Planning teams headed by Partners Claire Howard-Amos and Deborah Sharples respectively have had a very busy year, advising on a number of housing development sites in the town. Partner Patricia Kempson is also a Director of the Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID), which has a vision to ensure that the town centre excels as a place to work, do business, shop and visit. BID runs for five years from 2011 to 2015. During that time it will generate an investment in excess of £2 million for the town centre area. The Prime Minister visited Northampton to promote the Government-backed Help to Buy Housing Scheme. It was his first trip to the county since his visit to Tata Steel in Corby last year. The Northampton Waterside Enterprise Zone has been identified specifically as an area for potential economic growth and aims to become the national centre of excellence for advanced technologies, precision engineering, low carbon technology, sustainable construction and high performance engineering.
