Widely-respected solicitor Gemma Dudley has been promoted to legal director by law firm Hewitsons. Gemma heads the planning & environment team and is based in Cambridge, although her role spans across the firm’s four site, also including London, Milton Keynes and Northampton.
Gemma specialises in both contentious and non-contentious planning matters, including assisting with planning applications and appeals, advising in relation to the interpretation of planning legislation and policy, drafting and negotiating infrastructure agreements, and dealing with planning enforcement and high court challenges.
For a number of years, Gemma has taken an increasingly prominent role in the planning & environment team and was named as a Rising Star in the Legal 500 guide 2020, which ranks law firms.
Commenting on her promotion, Gemma said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead a very talented team and look forward to continuing to build on the success of Hewitsons’ planning and environmental division, and the firm generally.
“This is a very busy time in the property market and we are already working on some exciting projects in Cambridge, Northampton and elsewhere, providing a very positive outlook for the future.”
Gemma joined Hewitsons in 2006 as part of the firm’s planning & environment team after qualifying as a solicitor in London. She was promoted to legal director from the role of senior associate. She lives in Cambridge with her partner and enjoys running, skiing and generally keeping fit.
Susanne Hinde, partner in the Cambridge real estate Team, said: “We are delighted that Gemma has been appointed as a legal director in the planning and environmental team. She is highly-respected by clients and colleagues alike and we congratulate Gemma on her well-earned promotion.”
