Charity Commission updates COVID-19 guidance in relation to charity meetings
The Charity Commission has this month updated its COVID-19 guidance in regard to “AGMs and other meetings: postponing or cancelling meetings”.
Amy Wallhead, a private client solicitor for law firm Hewitsons, has taken up the challenge of walking the Great Wall of China to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society
Already a Dementia Friends Champion and having successfully run a series of Dementia Friends sessions to the general public and colleagues, Amy has set her sights further afield for an even larger challenge! The trek will take place over six consecutive days in October 2016 and will cover 80km.
Amy, who hopes to raise over £4,000, said: “I decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society because as a Dementia Friends Champion this is a cause close to my heart. On Boxing Day, sat with a mouth full of chocolate and a glass of prosecco in hand, signing up to trek part of the Great Wall of China seemed like a brilliant idea so I did! I am in no doubt that it will be a tough challenge but it’s great to know that I will be raising funds to help support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.
“To date, the support I have received has been overwhelming. I have already raised over £3,300 through generous donations and organising a variety of events, including bake sales which are always a popular event at the office. Having arranged a successful quiz evening in Lincoln earlier in the year, I am hosting another one in Cambridge next month.
” The quiz, on the 22nd June, will be held at The Burleigh Arms in Cambridge and is open to everyone to form a team of six with an entry fee of £20 per team. In addition to the quiz, the evening will include a raffle, where all funds will go towards the fundraising target. Should you wish to donate a raffle prize or would like to enter a team, please contact Amy on 01223 461155 or at amywallhead@hewitsons.com.
Daniel Curtis, Partner and Head of the private client department at Hewitsons said: “Amy has already done much within and outside the firm to raise people’s awareness of Dementia. We have every confidence that she will achieve this challenge and exceed her fund raising target in the process. We wish her every success.
” Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We are delighted that Amy is giving her time to support Alzheimer’s Society. 225,000 will develop dementia this year, that’s one every three minutes. As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like Amy to help us continue our vital work. Please back Amy in her fundraising efforts so that Alzheimer's Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.” To sponsor Amy, please visit https://www.justgiving.com/owner-email/pleasesponsor/AmyWallhead
