The Coronavirus pandemic has, unfortunately, impacted HM Courts and Tribunal Service (“HMCTS”) and caused additional delays at the Probate Registry.
However, HMCTS has recently provided details of upcoming changes to its digital probate service. These upcoming changes include updates to the existing system which enable the generation of unique case-specific cover sheets and documentation lists.
Functionality updates are also expected in order to improve applications where partners, members, shareholders or directors in a firm or successor firm are named as executors in the Will. Practitioners will also now be able to sign the legal statement for applications on behalf of their clients, which will help alleviate delays. Further, it is hoped that from June 2021, trust corporations will also be permitted to submit online applications to HMCTS.
