Shared Parental Leave to be extended to grandparents?

The Government has said that it plans to extend the current Shared Parental Leave system to include working grandparents.

The Government has said that it plans to extend the current Shared Parental Leave system to include working grandparents. So, if the plan goes ahead, grandparents as well as a child's parents will be able to share up to 50 weeks maternity leave and 37 weeks of maternity pay (the remaining 2 weeks must only be taken by the mother). According to the Government, this will help in particular single mothers who would be able to share the leave and pay with a working grandparent, though presumably it won't be restricted to single parent families. The Shared Parental Leave system is already pretty complicated when you get deep into the mechanics of it all - so adding an extra layer of complication will be.......interesting!
