Emma Shipp - Partner and Head of Business Services

Emma is an experienced corporate lawyer and head of the Business Services Unit responsible for growth and direction of the firm’s services to business clients.

Emma is a corporate lawyer with a wealth of experience gained from acting for owner managed businesses, partnerships, membership institutions and public and private companies. She has been a trusted business adviser to her clients for many years representing them from cradle to grave – from incorporation and seed investment through mergers and acquisitions to disposals and re-organisations. Along the way she advises on shareholder agreements, partnership deeds, simple loan arrangements and, where necessary, solvent and insolvent procedures for re-organisation. Clients benefit from her negotiation skills and solution-driven, commercial approach to getting deals done.

Emma trained in industry, working for the Prudential plc for a number of years, before moving to private practice in 1990 where she has remained ever since. She became managing partner of City firm Sprecher Grier Halberstam in 2005 and took that firm into merger with Birmingham based Martineau in 2011. She was elected managing partner of SGH Martineau in 2012 and negotiated a merger with Shakespeares in 2015 to create top 50 law firm Shakespeare Martineau. She joined Hewitsons as head of Business Services in 2018.
